A clear feeding handoff
Help a second caregiver follow the family’s feeding plan.

In this lesson
Part 1
Write what the next person needs
Record the most recent feed, what supplies are ready and where written preparation and storage instructions are kept. Use the plan agreed with the parent and care team. Leave space for questions.
Part 2
Demonstrate, then check back
Show the caregiver the equipment and how the family uses it. Ask them to describe the plan back in their own words. Resolve uncertainty before leaving, especially around preparation or allergies.
Do not dilute or concentrate formula, improvise storage times, or add foods to a bottle. Use current public-health and manufacturer instructions for the exact feeding method.
Part 3
Keep the return handoff short
Share what happened, anything unusual, and what needs washing or replacing. A neutral note is easier to act on than a judgment about how much the baby “should” have eaten.
One thing to try today
Fill in the feeding section of the caregiver sheet together.
For a partner, grandparent or helper
Follow the chosen feeding approach and ask before making changes.
Make a caregiver handoff sheet →When to get more help
Ask the care team for individualized feeding quantities, preparation guidance and a plan for any feeding or growth concern.
