Start with one annoying, repeatable job: turning notes into a grocery list, drafting a packing checklist, or sorting a week's reminders. Give the assistant constraints, ask it to flag missing information, and review its answer before using it.

01Choose one task
02Give a short brief
03Check the draft
04Reuse what works
A useful first win: turn a messy list into one you can actually use.
  1. 01

Pick one task with a clear finish line.

  2. 02

Give the essentials: age range, time, budget, available supplies, and preferences. Leave out full names, birth dates, addresses, school names, and medical records.

  3. 03

Ask for a short first draft with assumptions marked.

  4. 04

Check dates, safety, ingredients, event availability, and links yourself.

  5. 05

Save the version that works and reuse the prompt next week.

Five copy-and-personalize prompts

The fridge-to-dinner rescue

Help me plan three easy family dinners using these ingredients: [list]. My available cooking time is [minutes]. My budget for extras is [amount]. Dietary restrictions are [brief non-identifying restrictions]. List ingredients by meal, then give one grouped shopping list. Flag substitutions and anything I must check on a food label. Do not assume a food is safe for an allergy.

Turn a school note into a checklist

From this redacted school notice, extract dates, deadlines, things to bring, and actions. Use a table: task, due date, suggested owner, what needs checking. If a date or time is missing, write 'confirm'; do not invent it. Do not send messages or change my calendar.

A 15-minute holiday activity

Suggest three holiday crafts for a child aged [age] using [supplies]. We have 15 minutes and prefer [low mess/no paint/etc]. Include setup, three child-friendly steps, adult-only steps, cleanup, and a simpler version. Exclude small loose decorations for children under 3.

The out-the-door list

Make a packing and departure checklist for a [duration] family outing with a child aged [age range]. Our transport is [type] and weather forecast is [verified forecast]. Separate night-before tasks from departure tasks. Include one indoor backup. Ask about missing details that change the plan.

A kinder weekly plan

Turn this anonymous household task list into a realistic seven-day plan. We each have [availability]. Suggest owners for review, mark deadlines, allow travel and setup time, and leave room for rest. Do not assign work as final until both adults agree. List three things we can skip.

Try this tonight

Take three ordinary tasks—pack a bag, plan tomorrow’s dinner, and prepare for an outing. Ask AI to turn them into a 15-minute evening checklist. Delete anything unnecessary and compare the remaining list with what you really need.

Keep family information small: Review the AI service's data and memory settings before adding family information. Use a parent-owned account. Avoid uploading identifiable children's photos, school records, health documents, or private messages for routine planning. AI can make mistakes. Review dates and advice, and use qualified professionals for health, safety, or developmental concerns.
